OKALOOSA COUNTY, Fla. — Longtime Florida resident and mother of four Cynthia West has officially launched her campaign for Okaloosa County School Board, District 3, offering steady leadership, clear priorities, and strong advocacy for students and families.
“After listening to parents, teachers, and taxpayers across District 3, one thing is clear: our schools need leadership that puts students first, protects taxpayer dollars, and plans ahead,” West said. “Okaloosa County has earned its reputation for high-performing, grade-A schools. I’m running to protect that excellence while ensuring we remain responsible stewards of every dollar entrusted to us.”
West’s family moved to Florida during military life, and Okaloosa County is now their permanent home. Her children have been educated through a combination of traditional public schools, charter pathways, IEP services, and advanced academic programs—giving her a broad understanding of the diverse needs of local families.
West’s campaign will be guided by four key priorities:
1. Smart, fair budgeting that respects taxpayers.
Financial decisions must be transparent, strategic, and focused on long-term stability—not just the next budget cycle.
2. Support for parental choice alongside realistic planning for public schools.
West respects families’ increasing options and is committed to addressing how enrollment shifts and funding changes impact district planning.
3. Protecting A-rated schools and keeping academics at the center.
West will support teachers, expand academic opportunities, and remove DEI-based frameworks from district policy and training so the focus stays on academics, safety, and student success.
4. Strong action on bullying, mental health, and electronic addiction.
As a mental health professional, West emphasizes building resilience, strengthening emotional well-being, and ensuring students are prepared to thrive in school and life.
“This is personal,” West added. “I’m running for my kids, for your kids, and for the future of a community I love.”
