Cynthia West Expands School Board Campaign to District 1, Continuing Advocacy for Okaloosa Families

OKALOOSA COUNTY, Fla. — Candidate for Okaloosa School Board and mother of four, Cynthia West has officially announced a campaign transition from the District 3 seat to District 1, citing a natural alignment between her professional background, community relationships, and where she feels called to serve.

“My family and I are proud to call Okaloosa County home, and over time, new opportunities have opened that make it clear District 1 is where I can best serve,” said West. “This shift isn’t about politics or positioning — it’s about service. God has opened doors that allow me to continue working with families I’ve already walked alongside, just in a different capacity.”

West previously worked as a substance abuse counselor in Shalimar, serving individuals and families throughout District 1. That experience, she says, deeply shaped her understanding of the challenges facing students and parents — and strengthened her commitment to early intervention, accountability, and strong support systems.

“I’ve spent years serving families during some of the most difficult moments of their lives,” West said. “To now have the opportunity to advocate for them at the school board level is an honor. My priority has always been service, and I would be deeply grateful for the opportunity to serve the families of District 1 by helping ensure our public schools provide a strong, supportive, high-quality education for every child.”

West’s family relocated to Florida during military service, and Okaloosa County has been their permanent home ever since. Her children have been educated through a combination of traditional public schools, charter programs, IEP services, and advanced academics — giving her firsthand insight into the diverse needs of students and families across the district.

West’s campaign remains guided by four key priorities:

• Smart, fair budgeting that respects taxpayers.

Support for parental choice alongside realistic planning for public schools.

Protecting A-rated schools and keeping academics at the center.

• Strong action on bullying, mental health, and electronic addiction.
